Hi, Leslie (if I may say so, instead of the proper Rev. titles),
I’m glad to have come across your blog.
I’m currently translating The Spirit Level into Polish (now, ch. 3). I found the book in the Quaker bookshop in London last summer (as well as an older Wilkinson book which I bought and suggested to the publisher who in turn handed me in The Spirit Level to do).
I’m personally interested in a Better World that Is Possible, thinking about writing a book on those who are making it reality even now, but it still seems a far cry (I mean, my book), as well as about creating a web site called “Spirit of the Left”, intended to reclaim spirituality for those thinking progressively (whose pervasive and often unintended atheism is something I deplore).
My point is, if we take e.g. Jesus’ or the Buddha’s teachings seriously, it is in fact political and economic conservatism that is hard to defend, quite contrary to what political tradition has accustomed us to. I feel their teachings are deeply egalitarian and at least sceptical about the pursuits of wealth and power.
With modern technology and dense population, things are getting tough so it’s high time for us to take a stand stemming from the idea of our universal heritage as God’s children (or inter-beings, from a Buddhist perspective).
Keep on, it’s a great thing you’re doing!

P.S. I keep a blog “The Way of Socialism” but unfortunately it’s only in Polish as for now.
The other Wilkinson’s book is “The Impact of Inequality”. Thanx for your reply.
